Surreal.
My artwork involves the creation of surreal images, which are intended to both amuse and disturb the viewer through the contradiction of physical laws, alteration of perspective, and by placing objects or creatures in unexpected and unfamiliar settings.
I am greatly interested in portraying the mundane and commonplace, objects and entities which we see everyday, and so do not appreciate them for their full aesthetic worth. A while back this definition of mundane and commonplace would have been limited, but now, in my opinion it applies to practically everything, thanks to films and documentaries, magazines and so on. I try to take these common things and place them with things which are just as common, but unrelated to one another, in a setting, at times, also unrelated, thereby causing the viewer to re-evaluate, their own perspective of these places, objects and entities, and give them new importance.
Through this method I can create images which, though they are not directly linked to dreams, posses all the aspects of a dream, a jumble of images, which even though are random, and can at times seem completely alien, are connected to the fragmented memory of this world.
Portrait
When it comes to portraiture my interest lies in the aesthetic. Interesting facial features which separate the subject from the crowd. A large nose, rosy cheeks, large, squinting eyes. Equally important as the facial features is the facial expression. A small smile, a frown, a faraway look within the eyes. It is said the eyes are the window to the soul and it is true. I have depicted many people and their personality has never shone through until the pupils have been added. Though most of the time the face is key, there are moments when it becomes secondary and my interest is caught by the body. The arch of a back, the positioning of the arms, or the clothes which decorate them. All of these factors are important and add up to the person depicted.
Landscape
My artwork involves the depiction of landscapes which are intended to create within the active explorer feelings of euphoria, of actually being there, and for the more hermetic the desire to start visiting such places. My landscapes are usually rather sparse with a single isolated point of interest, be it a house, a boat, a tree, or a bench. Located within a scene which hopefully has an overall sense of tranquillity and stillness.

Dying is easy , living scares me to death !

There's a brand new dance with a brand new angle It's the very last waltz and it's called the Dangle
You tie a rope round your neck and stand on a chair And you kick it away and you're dancing on air. -JE
